This year, Wisconsin Public Television celebrates our 43rd year of fantastic fun at Auction – May 31 through June 3, 2018! Help support WPT as you bid on an array of goods and services donated by businesses and individuals from around Wisconsin and beyond.

And for the first year in Auction history, Auction will broadcast across Wisconsin Public Television’s viewing area each day! Don’t forget – you can also preview and bid on items and watch our live stream from anywhere at auction.wpt.org. To bid by phone, dial 800-236-3636.

Each year, generous donors make the WPT Auction magic happen. Quigley Cable Rail (and Quigley Decks) of Madison have donated for two years in a row. We spoke with owner Timothy Quigley to learn about the businesses’ commitment to Auction.

Can you tell me a little bit about your businesses and your role in them? We manufacture stainless steel posts for cable rail systems. These railings are installed on decks and also on stairs and balconies in the interior of homes and businesses. My role is overseeing everything from manufacture, to sales, to installation and customer service.

What does an average workweek look like for you? Or is every week different? An average workweek for me is like the weather in Wisconsin: constantly changing. Honestly, it depends on the time of year. In the winter months, a big focus is the manufacturing of posts to build inventory for the spring, summer and fall installation season. We also do interior installations in winter. From March onward, most of our time is spent building decks, installing cable railings, and then in the evenings, I will go on a couple of sales calls. If it’s a day of heavy rain and we can’t work outside, we are in the shop fabricating posts for inventory.

So, there’s plenty of variety and never a dull moment!

What’s your favorite part about your job? I’m definitely a people person; I think that’s in my DNA from growing up in Ireland. I like the interactions with staff and customers. It’s always a joy to see the appreciation people’s faces when we build them a new deck or replace an old rickety railing with a beautiful and solid new cable railing. I also love sharing my knowledge with employees and seeing them grow.

How long have you been involved in Auction, and what about WPT’s Auction motivated you to donate initially? This is my second year being an Auction donor. I truly admire the work that WPT is doing; they are a tremendous service to the community, and to the people of Wisconsin as a whole.

What’s your favorite part about being an Auction donor?
I think being a donor – or contributor to WPT – is the quintessential example of both giving back to the community and paying it forward. Through the generous contributions of people before me, WPT was there for me. Now I can be there for others, and that gives me a great sense of pride.
