Reel to Real

Reel to Real works with libraries, schools, non-profit organizations, associations, civic groups and more to spark conversation and explore issues affecting our communities.  Impact and learning are the key goals of Reel to Real, along with community engagement, local involvement and action.

We help community groups develop critical dialogues using the power of PBS or Wisconsin Public Television content as conversation starters. WPT can then help organizations find speakers, local experts, plan and promote events and more.

Groups can choose from an incredibly diverse selection of films covering a wide range of topics, including race and diversity, social justice, health care, Wisconsin culture, democracy, history, the arts, education and civic engagement – some of the most critical issues facing communities in Wisconsin today.

Reel to Real is far more than a film-screening service for community organizations – it’s a community hub project that connects the diverse content and far-reaching resources and partnerships of public media with community dialogue and action at the most local level possible.

Reel to Real is a partnership with the Wisconsin Library Association.

Reel to Real Screening Request

What we do for you

Hosting a screening is easy and free of charge. Simply choose a film and tell us when you’d like to hold your event. If there’s a particular topic you’d like to address in your community, let us know in the additional comments field and we will attempt to locate an appropriate film.

We will send you a DVD of the film, a PDF flyer for use in promoting the event, and we can assist you in finding a discussion leader.

Screening Requirements

We require that your event be free of charge and open to the public, and that you include an educational component to the event-typically in the form of an open discussion following the screening.
